HOLISTIC GLOSSARY To better understand and acquaint yourself with our some of our services.
WELLNESS: The condition of good physical and mental health, especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise, and habits.
HOLISTIC: relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts <holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body.
SHIATSU: A form of therapeutic massage in which pressure is applied with the thumbs and palms to those areas of the body used in acupuncture.
ACUPRESSURE: Treatment of symptoms by applying pressure with the fingers to specific pressure points on the body.
ACUPUNCTURE: A procedure used in or adapted from Chinese medical practice in which specific body areas are pierced with fine needles for therapeutic purposes or to relieve pain or produce regional anesthesia.
REFLEXOLOGY: massage of the feet or hands based on the belief that pressure applied to specific points on these extremities benefits other parts of the body.
SCIATICA: ”sci·at·i·ca [sahy-at-i-kuh] Sciatica is a term used to describe radiating pain in the legs, caused by a nerve problem in the lower back. Sciatic pain (sciatic nerve pain) is often felt in combination with lower back pain. The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest nerve in the body. It runs from the sacral back region down both legs. There are many branches that come off the main nerves, serving both sensory and motor functions of the buttocks, legs and feet.
SPINAL DECOMPRESSION Spinal “decompression” is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment for certain types of chronic back pain. Mechanical decompression works by slowly and gently stretching the spine, taking pressure off compressed discs and vertebrae. Spinal decompression is one of the most exciting medical treatments developed in many years, since it demonstrates good statistical results for long term pain relief.

CUPPING Cupping refers to an ancient Chinese practice in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (by using change in heat or by suctioning out air), so that the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping).
R.M.T. (REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST): a person trained in manipulation of the soft tissues of the body by rubbing, stroking, kneading, etc. for therapeutic or healing purposes
